Fifth dose of coronavirus vaccine recommended for people with severe immunodeficiency

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) recommends a fifth dose of the coronavirus vaccine for people aged 12 and older whose immune system is severely weakened.

Updated 17.6. online booking

The dose can be administered after 4–6 months have passed since the fourth dose. A coronavirus infection corresponds to one dose of the vaccine (this also applies to people with immunodeficiency), which means that if you have had the coronavirus disease and have received four doses of the vaccine, you do not need a fifth dose at this stage.

A fourth dose of the vaccine was recommended for people with severe immunodeficiency in December 2021. In these people, the fourth dose of the vaccine was considered to be a booster that corresponded to the third dose administered to the rest of the population. Previous studies have shown that booster doses can significantly improve the efficiency of the vaccine in people with a severely weakened immune system.
