Fourth coronavirus vaccines also recommended for elderly home care and informal care clients
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) recommends fourth coronavirus vaccine doses for elderly home care and informal care clients and other elderly people with similarly reduced health and functional capacity.
Updated 13.5. online appointment booking
People with reduced health and functional capacity include those who cannot cope at home without help or who may need hospital care for even minor infections. Please note that the fourth coronavirus dose is available to elderly informal care clients, not to informal carers themselves.
Home care clients do not have to book an appointment. Home care staff are in charge of contacting and vaccinating home care clients. This also applies to clients who use service vouchers and outsourced services.
Others, such as informal care clients, can book an appointment at a vaccination site online at bookcovidvaccine.fi or by calling our vaccination number, tel. 09 816 34800, and leaving a call-back request (Mon–Fri 8:00–16:00). The fourth dose can be given at the earliest 3 months after the third dose. Currently, online appointment booking is only available to people aged 65 or over. If you are under 65 years of age and entitled to the fourth dose, we ask you to call our vaccination number so that our staff can assess whether you need the vaccine.
It is also possible to get vaccinated without booking an appointment at the Iso Omena and Espoon keskus vaccination sites. Information on walk-in hours is available at espoo.fi/coronavaccination(external link).
If a person’s functional capacity is reduced and they are unable to visit a vaccination site, they can get vaccinated at home. You can inquire about vaccination at home through Nestori – Guidance and Service Counselling for Senior Citizens, tel. 09 816 33 333, email@example.com. The telephone service is open Mon–Fri 9:00–15:00. The staff at Nestori do not provide other vaccination-related guidance, and they cannot see the current situation regarding vaccination appointments.
The staff at Nestori will interview the person to be vaccinated or their family member and examine their patient information. Based on this information, the staff will instruct the client to visit a vaccination site or will give advice on how to get vaccinated at home.
