Changes to coronavirus guidelines in schools as of 7 October
The City of Espoo rapid intervention team has made changes to the coronavirus guidelines concerning the organisation of teaching. The new guidelines will take effect in schools on 7 October 2021.
The new guidelines are based on the recommendations issued by the Regional State Administrative Agency and the coronavirus coordination group for the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Mask recommendation remains in force
It is recommended that all pupils in 6th grade or above, students and staff wear a face mask. The mask recommendation at Espoo’s schools will be reviewed later, after national guidelines on the matter have been issued.
Mother tongue instruction carried out as contact teaching
After the autumn holiday, mother tongue instruction will mainly be carried out as contact teaching. This does not apply to those groups whose instruction will be implemented as distance learning also in the future.
Celebrations and school camps can be organised
Excursions, field trips and cultural visits may be carried out using public transport, provided that participants avoid crowds, follow the mask recommendation and take care of good hand hygiene. Overnight trips and camps in Finland are allowed provided that the health and safety of participants are ensured.
Schools may now organise celebrations, visits and other events to which guardians can also be invited. At events, such as the second-year students’ dance, the health and safety of participants should be ensured by staggering the activities or by other means.
