The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) recommends that a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine is given to people who received the first two doses within an interval of under 6 weeks and people with severe immunodeficiency.

At the beginning of the year, social welfare and health care staff as well as elderly persons were vaccinated with an interval of under 6 weeks. A third dose is now available to these people. You can get your third dose after at least 6 months have passed since your second dose.

A third dose for people with severe immunodeficiency

In Espoo, a third dose of the vaccine is also available to persons with severe immunodeficiency. For these individuals, at least 2 months must have passed since their second dose.

The following conditions are considered to cause severe immunodeficiency:

  • severe or moderate congenital immunodeficiency
  • immunosuppressive cancer treatment
  • treatment of an autoimmune disease with immunosuppressive biological drugs or JAK inhibitors
  • dialysis and severe chronic kidney failure
  • advanced or untreated HIV
