12–15-year-olds to receive the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine at school earlier than previously announced

Espoo has decided to accelerate the schedule for the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine (i.e. booster dose) in order to quickly increase health and safety in schools and to better enable pupils to attend contact teaching. In addition, families can feel safer about making plans for the autumn holiday knowing that their children are protected by vaccination.

The interval between the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine can be shortened to 6 weeks, and this will not prevent anyone from getting their first dose of the vaccine as scheduled.

Pupils will have the opportunity to receive the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine at school during the school day between 27 September and 8 October 2021. The previously announced booster vaccination days that would have taken place after the autumn holiday have thus been cancelled. During the same time period, the first dose of the vaccine is also available to pupils who have not yet received it.

You do not need to book an appointment to get vaccinated at school. Vaccinations are voluntary. Please note that during the above-mentioned time period, school health care staff will focus on vaccinations. Apart from this, only scheduled doctors’ appointments will be held.

If for some reason, you are unable to get the second dose at school, you can get the vaccine without booking an appointment at the following locations:

  • the Iso Omena walk-in vaccination site, Mon–Fri 9:30–11:30 and 12:15–14:00.
  • Entresse Library on Fridays between 10:00 and 18:00
  • Sello Library on Thursdays between 10:00 and 18:00.
