Coronavirus vaccines offered to all 12–15-year-old Espoo residents.

As of Monday 9 August, we can offer coronavirus vaccines to all 12–15-year-old Espoo residents. You must be at least 12 years old to receive the vaccine.

Children and young people will be offered the BioNTech-Pfizer Comirnaty vaccine or the Moderna Spikevax vaccine. Our aim is to make sure that everyone who wants the vaccine can get it as quickly as possible.

In Espoo, 12–15-year-olds can receive the vaccine through school health care or at a vaccination site

Vaccinations at schools will start on Monday 16 August and will proceed one school and class at a time. You do not have to book an appointment for vaccinations at schools. We will provide parents and pupils with more detailed information on school- and class-specific vaccinations through Wilma. During the weeks when the vaccinations take place, school health care staff can only offer a limited number of other appointments.

If a guardian wishes to attend their child’s vaccination appointment, we ask them to book an appointment at a vaccination site, as we cannot give a precise vaccination schedule for a specific school or class.

Appointments at vaccination sites can be booked as of the afternoon of Monday 9 August. Young people can also get their first dose of the vaccine at the Iso Omena vaccination site without booking an appointment from Monday to Friday between 9:30 and 11:30 and between 12:15 and 14:00. On Monday 9 August and Tuesday 10 August, the walk-in vaccination site is open from 9:30 to 11:30 and from 12:15 to 19:00. Please note that each vaccination site only has a limited number of vaccines available per day.

If a young person receives their first vaccine dose at a vaccination site, the booster dose will also be given at a vaccination site. If the first dose is given at school, the second dose will also be given at school.

Vaccinations for 12–15-year-olds will be possible as the Government amended the decree on voluntary coronavirus vaccinations on Thursday 5 August. Until now, coronavirus vaccines have been available to all people over 16 years of age and to 12–15-year-olds who belong to medical risk groups.

Guardians’ consent to a young person’s coronavirus vaccination

Vaccinations carried out at schools will involve the written consent of the guardians. The consent form can be found on the bookcovidvaccine website: https://www.koronarokotusaika.fi/en/uudenmaan-asukkaille/(external link) School health care staff will provide further instructions on the consent form at a later date.

However, minors can decide for themselves whether to get vaccinated if the health care professional administering the vaccine determines that they are able to make the decision based on their age and level of development. The vaccination is voluntary.
