Have an eventful summer in Espoonlahti

Located near the archipelago, Espoonlahti is characterised by its closeness to nature and modern urban culture. During the summer of 2022, the area will host free events and art projects based on the theme of community spirit.

In 2022, Espoonlahti’s events are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishing of the city of Espoo. 

Summer Events


Hanikka Summer Tuesdays bring culture and urban cottage vibes to the Hanikka recreation centre in Soukka on Tuesday nights from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from 7 June to 9 August 2022.

The programme changes every week and it includes outdoor yoga, open-air dancing and art workshops. In addition to the free programme, visitors may also enjoy the seaside sauna and the communal barbecue of the recreation centre at their leisure on Tuesday nights. Espoo’s Event and Cultural Services and the Soukka Society are responsible for the production. Bring your swimwear and snacks, and come and spend a cosy summer evening in Hanikka! Free admission. The area is not fully wheelchair accessible.

Those who are spending Midsummer in Espoonlahti are also welcomed to visit Hanikka from Friday 24 June to Sunday 26 June. The sauna and the communal barbeque of the recreation center are available for free use on Midsummer Eve from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  


Aurora’s Summer Tour x Espoo 50 hits the residents’ parks of Soukka and Kivenlahti on Wednesday 15 June. The parks will host the children’s theater production Viima – mistäs nyt tuulee? by the Piste collective. A combination of circus and physical theater, the performance is aimed at children aged 3–10.


Get a head start on Midsummer’s festivities at Espoonlahti’s Pre-Midsummer on Thursday 23 June! Take part in outdoor karaoke in Lippulaiva shopping center’s Solmutori and enjoy other festive activities arranged by Lippulaiva and Lippulaiva library.


Fiesta Latina: Vamos a la Playa! The popular Fiesta Latina club will bring Latin dance to the Kivenlahti beach! Join the free event on Saturday 23 July at 2 PM – 10 PM and enjoy the Fiesta Latina rhythms as well as Zumba, dance lessons and the summer atmosphere on the beach. Free admission.


Arctic Ensemble's Street Circus Carnival takes over Kivenlahti on 34 August! Arctic Ensemble is a Finnish circus group established in 2018. The versatile group has been conquering the world with its amazing acrobatic skills and infectious team spirit. Arctic Ensemble will perform two different shows (Kickstart and Adrift) at the carnival in Kivenlahti. In addition, the event will feature The Legend of the Holy Pear by Säilättäret and Friday Evening by Petja Päivärinne. Between the performances, anyone can participate in circus workshops organised in cooperation with Sirkus Magenta. The Street Circus Carnival performs at Meritori in Kivenlahti on 3 August from 5 PM to 8 PM and on 4 August from 4 PM to 8P M. The event is free and suitable for all ages.


Kauko Räsänen House of Art (Kauko Räsäsen ateljeetalo) in Espoonlahti will be open to the public during Espoo Celebrates! week. An important figure in Espoo’s cultural scene, visual artist Kauko Räsänen (1926–2015) lived and worked in a house he built himself on Oppilaantie. The building now belongs to a foundation bearing the artist’s name and houses artists’ residences, event spaces and a permanent exhibition that focuses on Räsänen’s medal art.  The unique house and its exhibitions are open to the public Wed 24–Fri 26 August 12:00–16:00 and Sat 27–Sun 28 August 10:00–16:00. The programme features art workshops and concerts, and there will be a pop-up café on the premises. Free admission.

The critics’ indie favourite and ambassador of comfort in Finnish pop, Samae Koskinen, will perform in the inner courtyard of Kauko Räsänen House of Art on Sunday 28 August at 16:00 as part of the Espoo Celebrates! week.  The concert has free admission, and people of all ages are welcome.
