New Year’s Eve in Espoo 2024

Come to experience joy, magical lights and togetherness! The main attraction of the event to be held in Tapiola centre will be a spectacular water & light show entitled Salaovi (‘Secret Door’), a performance full of the joy and magic of the new year.

Espoo will be ushering in the new year with a celebration for all city residents. The event will be organised on New Year’s eve, Sunday 31 December from 5 pm.

The family event will fill the area between Espoo Cultural Centre, Tapionpuisto park and Shopping Centre AINOA in Tapiola centre. Participants can look forward to enjoying an idyllic urban event with a scintillating atmosphere, featuring an extensive range of light and sound art, circus acts, a swinging lounge bar, a children’s disco and light workshops.

Event programme:

WATER & LIGHT SHOW: SALAOVI (‘SECRET DOOR’)

The highlight of the event will be a water & light show inspired by the spectacular fountain shows of Las Vegas, which will be performed three times during the evening. The music of the show is provided by musician Fedja Kamari, also known by the stage name Handshaking. As the title Salaovi (‘Secret Door’) implies, the show provides a peek into the exciting and mysterious new year and its promises. The soundscape sparks in a somewhat menacing manner in parts before culminating in a harmonious celebration. The water & light show is produced by media & show operator Dancing Fountains. Show times: 18:30, 19:30, 20:30.

LIGHT AND SOUND ART
The works of ten professional artists create a path of light and sound celebrating the unique architecture of the area. Artists: Artturi Taira, Jussi TwoSeven, Karin Mäkiranta, Merle Karp, Pihla Lemmetyinen, Sampo Aatos, Tero Juuti, Tuulia Tanila, VJ Indigo

CIRCUS ACTS
Visitors can run into the playful performance full of lights, juggling and hoop spinning by circus artists Minka, Jani and Veronica in various parts of the event area.

The delicate choreographies of the Belenos Group of Arts, known for their distinctive style of performance and eye-catching outfits, create a peaceful atmosphere in the middle of the sparkly festivities.

CHILDREN'S DISCO
DJ Hermanni's delightful song choices and the brilliant dancers of Tanssikoulu DCA invite the youngest participants to dance and keep the party going all evening.

PANORAMA BAR feat. DJ OLD CRANK
The 2nd floor of the Espoo Cultural Centre turns into a panorama bar steeped in the spirit of the 1930s–1950s, where the stylish song choices of DJ Old Crank revolve around fox, jazz, Latin music, fintoxica and Finnish schlager.

LIGHT WORKSHOPS
Light painting, UV lights and mysterious light boxes – anyone can become a light artist for one night! Choose your preferred form of light or go through all the workshops over the course of the evening.
