New Year’s Eve in Espoo 2023
Come to experience joy, magical lights and togetherness! The New Year will be greeted in Espoo with an event for the whole family held at Vermo Areena.
The event will be organised on New Year’s eve, Saturday 31 December from 6 pm. The turn of the year invites the people of Espoo to gather at Vermo Areena (in Leppävaara area), which will be turned into a magical light park. The New Year’s Eve celebration of the City of Espoo and Vermo Areena will include an impressive laser light and drum show, Aalto.
The light and drum show, carried out by Showlaser Finland, provide something magical to experience. Please arrive on foot or by public transport, as parking is limited. New Year’s Eve Show is free of charge.

Espoo to look into sustainable and innovative ways of celebrating the New Year
Since 2010, the City of Espoo has not used traditional fireworks, and in 2018 Espoo was the first Finnish city to replace fireworks with a laser light show on New Year’s Eve. The City wants to continue to seek and develop alternative eco- and animal-friendly ways of welcoming the New Year together.
“The City of Espoo wants to offer residents joy, encounters and experiences. After two years of pandemic-related restrictions, we're excited to celebrate New Year's Eve together with Vermo Areena. Our event is the cherry on top of our celebrations for Espoo’s 50th anniversary, and it is also our way of thanking the residents for their active participation in the shared jubilee year of the city. The New Year in Espoo event is intended for people of all ages. We want to provide a safe event that also supports the values and objectives of sustainable development in the Espoo story,” says Lea Rintala, Project Manager at City Events Espoo.
The laser and drum performance uses energy-efficient LED and laser light projectors, and no separate festival electricity is ordered for this purpose. Eco-friendliness and cost-effectiveness have been taken into account by giving three performances of the same work during the evening, which will allow as many residents as possible to enjoy the show.
The venue, Vermo Areena, is easily accessible via public transport. All visitors from the Helsinki metropolitan area and residents of Espoo alike are encouraged to use public transport.
