Child health clinic appointments
Child health clinics support and monitor the growth and development of children under school age in a variety of ways. A child’s overall development is usually more important than their skills in a specific situation.
Child health clinic appointments
During your appointment at a child health clinic, you can discuss issues related to your family’s health and well-being, such as parenting, your family’s resources, nutrition, exercise, daily rhythms, spending time outdoors, accidents, relationships, moods, domestic violence, substance abuse and your family’s financial situation.
A public health nurse will plan the health advice that the client will receive during the appointments according to the family’s needs. The clinics also cooperate with other service providers such as family work, family counselling, social work and specialised health care. At the clinic, your child will get the vaccines included in the national vaccination programme. Vaccination programme for 0–7-year-olds (to be published later)
The duration of an appointment is 20–120 minutes, depending on its reason. Child health clinics do not treat illnesses. However, the public health nurses do provide advice over the phone and via the chat service.
How to book an appointment
We will not send you an invitation to the child health clinic. Please book your appointments by phone or through the online appointment booking system. You can use the online system to book health check appointments for children aged 1 year, 18 months, 2, 3, 5 and 6 years. Other periodic health check appointments must be booked by phone. You may book the appointment within three months starting from the beginning of the month preceding the child’s birth month.
The child health clinics’ appointment booking and counselling number, tel. +358 9 81622800, is open from Monday to Friday between 8:30 and 13:30.
