To whom Espoo's dental care provides services?
Our dental clinics take care of the oral health of the entire population.
For Espoo Residents
Espoo’s dental clinics provide services for Espoo residents of all ages and those who have registered as a client with a health centre in Espoo.
If Espoo is not your municipality of residence or you have not registered as a client with a health centre in Espoo, you must have a certificate of entitlement to medical care.
Persons in need of emergency care are always entitled to care regardless of their country of origin or municipality of residence. Emergency care refers to care that cannot be postponed without the medical condition or injury getting worse.
Services for different ages
People of all ages are entitled to use the oral health services provided by the City of Espoo.
Right to care
If you have a municipality of residence in Finland, you are entitled to all health care services provided by your municipality of residence.
Persons in need of emergency care, i.e. urgent medical care, are always entitled to treatment regardless of their country of origin or municipality of residence. Urgent care refers to care that cannot be postponed without aggravating the illness or injury.
If you do not have a municipality of residence in Finland, you may still be entitled to health services, for example, on the basis of working. In this case, the person must prove their rights with a certificate of entitlement to medical care issued by Kela(extrernal link), which indicates the extent of the entitlement to care.
A person coming from another EU or EEA country or Switzerland may receive medically necessary treatment in Finland’s public health care services with the European Health Insurance Card.
Adult asylum seekers are entitled to essential medical care, such as maternity clinic services, in addition to urgent medical care. Minor asylum seekers receive the same health care services as other residents of the municipality. Reception centres also organise health services for asylum seekers in cooperation with various service providers.
Refugees are entitled to the same health care services as other residents.
Health care services are organised for immigrants in multi-professional cooperation between experts specialising in integration and the specific issues of immigrants. You can apply for these services through the health centre. Immigrants are also entitled to interpretation assistance at appointments.
Temporary protection is intended for persons fleeing the war in Ukraine. The purpose of temporary protection is to provide people with protection quickly. People fleeing the war in Ukraine should apply for temporary protection. Applications for temporary protection are processed at a considerably faster rate than asylum applications. Asylum seekers and people who have been granted temporary protection receive health and social services at the reception centre.
Acting on behalf of someone else
If you find it difficult to handle your own affairs, you can authorise another person to act on your behalf in health care e-services.
You can do this by filling out the Authorisation form for another person to use health care e-services on your behalf(extrernal link).
With the form, you can authorise another person to act on your behalf in the City of Espoo’s health care e-services. The authorisation applies to the following online services:
- Health care appointment booking (dental care, maternity and child health clinic, health centres, school and student health care)
- Self-care and Health file
- SMS reminder
- Preliminary information forms
Submit your signed form in person to a health care unit (e.g. a health centre, maternity and child health clinic, school nurse or student health care nurse, dental clinic), which will record the authorisation and its limitations in the patient information system. Authorisation can be given for a limited time or for an indefinite period. If you wish, you can withdraw your authorisation by submitting the withdrawal of authorisation form to the City of Espoo health services.
ACTING ON BEHALF OF SOMEONE ELSE IN ORAL HEALTH CARE ALSO IN NON-ELECTRONIC SERVICES
If you want someone else to act on your behalf also in non-electronic services, it is possible in oral health care. You can give authorisation for someone else to act on your behalf by filling in the Form for another person to use oral health care services on your behalf(extrernal link). The form must be submitted personally at an oral health care unit of the City of Espoo. Authorisation for another person to use e-services on your behalf must be given separately using the common health care form.
Recording client information
Customer and patient data is recorded in different personal data registers by the City of Espoo Social and Health Services to the extent that is necessary in each case.
