Future plans for Leppävaara
The centre of Leppävaara is being developed as a compact urban area that relies on excellent public transport connections and brings housing and services together.
New housing is being built in Vermonniitty, Mäkkylä, Puustellinkallio, Palokärki and Painiitty. New homes for some 9,000 people will be completed by 2025.
There are also plans to build homes for some 800 people in Säterinkallionkulma, less than a kilometre from the Leppävaara public transport terminal and the Sello shopping centre. The goal is to build a pleasant, high-quality neighbourhood with services nearby. One of the Jokeri Light Rail stops will be located in Säterinkallionkulma.
A hotel, a commercial and sports centre as well as office and residential premises will be built at Hatsinanpuisto in Perkkaa, right next to Leppävaara. A park with café and restaurant services will be built on the banks of the Monikonpuro stream at the same time. The first stages of construction will be completed in 2021.
The Jokeri Light Rail will run next to the Sello shopping centre and the train station, enabling smooth transfer connections. You can follow the construction of the Jokeri Light Rail and the impacts of the construction project on the traffic arrangements in the Leppävaara area on the Jokeri Light Rail website(external link). The Jokeri Light Rail is set to start operating at the beginning of 2024.
Leppävaara’s transport connections will become even better in 2028 when the City Rail Link is completed. The City Rail Link will add two new tracks between Leppävaara and Kauklahti. Cycling routes along the railway line will also be improved.
A new sports and multi-purpose hall is being built in the Leppävaara sports park. A section of the hall will be two storeys high. In addition to an athletics field and a 200-metre indoor running track, the hall will have courts and rooms for various sports, offices and a café. The multi-purpose hall will also make it possible to hold concerts and fairs in Leppävaara. The hall will be completed in the spring of 2023.
Outdoor exercise facilities and services will also be improved at the Laaksolahti sports park, which, as a special feature, has a beach area. The sports park will, for example, include a skate park, a playground for children, a beginner-friendly disc golf course with nine holes and an outdoor gym near the beach. Plans have also been made to add a new building in the middle of the area. It will include changing rooms, a gym, a youth centre and a café. The tennis hall will be extended and the traffic and parking arrangements in the area will be made more functional and safer. The protected buildings and natural values of the area are taken into account in the planning and construction of the Laaksolahti sports park.
