Richard Strauss: Overture and Dance Scene from the opera Ariadne auf Naxos
Béla Bartók: Suite no. 2 op. 4

Strauss’s opera Ariadne auf Naxos begins with an industrial dispute focusing on the conflict between comic and serious opera. The end result is a compromise dictated by the authorities, but the music is full of Romantic grace and irony. Suite no. 2 by the young Bartók could almost be described as a four-movement symphony. Its finale is a sprightly nod to folklore.

Scheduled in the early evening on Fridays, our After Work concerts offer a relaxing start to the weekend. Each concert lasts about one hour without an interval and includes the conductor talking about the works performed. You are also welcome to enjoy a cup or glass of something at Tapiola Hall.
