Felix Mendelssohn: Scherzo and Notturno from A Midsummer Night’s Dream op. 61
Clara Schumann: Piano Concerto in A minor op. 7
Ferdinand Ries: Symphony no. 2 in C minor op. 80

Between 2022 and 2024, the Tapiola Sinfonietta will be performing the complete eight symphonies of Ferdinand Ries. Ries was a composer who, by the time of his Second Symphony completed in London, had fully turned the corner from Classicism to Romanticism. He has been overshadowed in history by his teacher, Beethoven, who instilled in him a ferocity that combines with a deft hand at orchestration in this Symphony in C minor.

Mendelssohn shows pure Romantic elegance in his incidental music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Clara Schumann dazzled Robert Schumann with her performance at the piano at the early age of 9 years, and five years later, when she was his pupil, he assisted her in writing her Piano Concerto.

Live stream on Tapiola SInfonietta´s YouTube channel on the 9th of September at 7 pm.

Pre-concert talk at 6 pm at Ahjo exhibition hall.
