People are often scared of spiders. There is no need for fear because we do not have any dangerous spiders in Finland. In fact, we should only say good things about spiders as they are an important part of the ecosystem.

The exhibition features potraits of various types of spiders, particularly focusing on jumping spiders. Unlike most other spiders, jumping spiders are big-eyed, adorable little jumpers. They do not spin webs but stalk their prey and then suddenly jump like a cat.

The exhibition is linked to Sami Karjalainen’s new book about jumping spiders, Suomen hyppyhämähäkit, that presents all 40 jumping spider species in Finland and aims to ease people’s fear of spiders by showing how charming spiders can be.

Nature House Villa Elfvik is open Mon–Fri 9:00–16:00 and Sat–Sun 10:00–16:00, on Ascension Day 26 May 10:00–16:00. Café Elfvik is open on weekends and midweek holidays whenever the Nature House is open.
