Future Stories
Future Stories is a series of events that Espoo's Event and Culture Services are organising together with city residents and external partners, and it is built around themes related to sustainable development. The goal of the event series is to address climate anxiety through art. The Future Stories event series seeks out new ways in which to create sustainable culture along with new stories to tell.Espoo’s Event and Culture Services are looking for an artist or artist group to create a community artwork
The artwork will be selected through an open call process, and it will be a part of the new Future Stories concept, which is meant to address the climate anxiety that people are experiencing. The purpose of the Future Stories artwork is to create hope for the future through art and to include citizens in the creation of art. In addition to the artwork, Event and Culture Services will organise several kinds of events across the city throughout the whole summer. For Espoo Day (26.8.) The artwork will be located in Espoonlahti, and its purpose is to address climate anxiety while using sustainable development as a starting point. The artwork will be created in co-operation with citizens, external partners and different units of Espoo’s Event and Cultural Services during the summer of 2023. A jury compiled by Espoo’s Event and Culture Services will process the applications during the last week of May. The winner will be announced at the beginning of June. The Future Stories event series will be featured throughout the summer in Espoo’s event centres and their outdoor areas. The Event and Culture Services’ premises include the Espoo Cultural Centre in Tapiola, the Sello Hall music hall in Leppävaara, the versatile Kannusali in Espoon keskus, the Children’s Cultural Center Aurora in Järvenperä, which is a meeting place for children and adults, and the Exhibition Centre WeeGee in Tapiola. The City of Espoo is committed to achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2025 and to being a carbon-neutral city by 2030. With regard to these ambitious goals, Espoo’s Event and Culture Services are now looking for an artist or artist group to create an inclusive urban artwork, which will be the main artwork of the Future Stories concept.
