Espoo’s new early childhood education plan was introduced on 1 August 2019 and it is based on a national regulation issued by the Finnish National Board of Education. The plan includes the main objectives and contents for the implementation of early childhood education and Espoo’s own municipal-specific policies.

Child’s early childhood education plan

An early childhood education plan is drawn up for children in day-care centres and family day care (the child’s ‘vasu’) together with their guardians once the child has started early childhood education. The child’s opinions and wishes are listened to and taken into consideration in making the plan.

When preparing an early childhood education plan, the discussion is focused on the child’s strengths, interests and the things the child has learnt as well as the child’s individual needs.  The discussion sets goals for early childhood education that support the child’s well-being and learning. The fulfilment of the child’s early childhood education plan is assessed and revised at least once a year.
