The application detailing the operations of Espoo’s winter maintenance equipment has received an honourable mention as an open data initiative of 2020.
The Espoo Map Service’s Street maintenance on a map view provides Espoo residents with up-to-date information on maintenance activities currently taking place on our street network. It also aims to reduce the amount of customer feedback. The publication is not real-time, but describes the ploughing and anti-slip operations on the city’s street network over the past 36 hours.
The Street maintenance on a map publication was previously known as Snowploughs on a map. The name was changed to describe the service more accurately when it was extended to include street brushing in addition to snow removal and anti-slip treatment.
The ploughing equipment’s location data points are fixed to Espoo’s street network geometry with emphasis on roadways. It is, therefore, not possible to ascertain from the service whether the operation in question was carried out on a roadway or pavement.
Real-time data on the swimming water temperatures of Helsinki’s beaches by Forum Virium Helsinki was selected as the best open data initiative of 2020. Another honourable mention was granted to the Helsinki Region Environmental Services’ (HSY) grid describing the number of jobs and establishments in the Helsinki Region.
Helsinki Region Infoshare (HRI) is an open data service owned jointly by the Cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen. The service provides data openly and free of charge to everyone.
