The Star Boys by Sointi Jazz Orchestra received a fantastic reception last Christmas and this year they’ll be appearing in Louhisali. In a new arrangement of this over 200-year-old traditional pageant, a 17-person ensemble, the Sointi Jazz Orchestra, provides the backing for four solo vocalists. The entire performance consists of the well-known stylised melodies, orchestral interludes and delightful improvisations, which convey the familiar story. This new arrangement of a widely-known musical story gets the whole family into the Christmas spirit.
A rich musical experience for the whole family, this arrangement of the Star Boys is a tasteful retake of the pageant giving it new value and interest. Overall, the performance is as visually impressive as it is musically effective and raises the profile of the traditional Star Boys to provide an inspiring experience for those who have not earlier seen the pageant. The work has been completely rearranged, in addition to which it has new interludes and added improvisation.
Formed in autumn 2013, Sointi Jazz Orchestra is a 17-member big-band ensemble whose strengths are a rich selection of instruments and highly-talented players. This Christmas, the orchestra will be broadcast on Christmas Radio, where one of the pieces will be this year’s arrangement of Hoosianna, a traditional Finnish carol, played together with jazz musician Jukka Perko.
