Ward 4: Infections

We treat adult patients from Espoo, Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi. Patients are referrals from specialised medical care or an emergency department.

Short term, acute infections are treated at the Espoo Hospital emergency ward. We also treat patients with heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

If the infection is delayed, the patient is transferred to the infection ward for further treatment. The care of a long-term infection continues as hospital care in the home as soon as the patient's health condition allows.

We support the patient's independence and focus on rehabilitation. Patients are encouraged to operate on their own and get help only when needed.

Rehabilitation is planned together with the patient by a multidisciplinary team, consisting of sufficient hospital staff. The team may for example consist of a doctor, nurse, practical nurse, occupational therapist, physiotherapist and a social worker. In rehabilitation we consider the patient’s needs and strength.

The patient is sent home when health permits. If needed, rehabilitation continues at home.
