Apprenticeship training provides the opportunity to get a professional qualification and degrees
through working.

The city has mostly offered apprenticeships for training to become a practical nurse in day care and services offered to the elderly or handicapped people. Apprentices have also been sought for food services. The city of Espoo announces positions vacant for apprentices in the recruitment system, in Employment and Economic Development Office's website  and in newspaper advertisements. The aim is to train more skilled employees for the city of Espoo.

Apprenticeship training consists of work practice in the workplace (80%) with additional theoretical studies in a school (20%). Training is based on a fixed-term employment agreement, during which the student gets paid according to the collective agreement, gains work experience and guidance for taking a professional examination. A personal study plan is prepared for each student.
