How does the city recruit?

We announce all permanent and longer fixed-term openings in the city of Espoo on our web site. We mainly use an electronic recruitment system. We actively participate in recruitment fairs and organise various recruitment events with our cooperation partners.

Announcing open positions

The city of Espoo announces all open positions on its own web site, on the Employment and Economic Development Office  web site. In addition, we utilise free web sites for advertising. Printed announces are placed in Helsingin Sanomat, Hufvudstadsbladet, Länsiväylä and various professional newspapers and magazines.


Applications for positions vacant in Espoo are primarily made through the recruitment system. It is also possible to submit a paper application. Send it to Espoon kaupunki, Rekrytointipalvelut, PL 651, 02070 Espoon kaupunki, to a Citizen's Office of the city of Espoo or to the registry. Do not send your application by email. The job key number of the position must be mentioned in the application and on the envelope. The application period ends on the last day of the application period, usually at 15:45. Always check the time the application period closes, as stated in the announcement!

Diplomas and references

In the application phase, you do not need to provide copies of your diplomas or references, but be prepared to bring them to an interview.

Interviews and selection

After the end of the application period, either the recruiting manager or assistants of the recruitment unit contact those who are invited to an interview. There may be one or two rounds of interviews. Some applicants may also be sent for a personal evaluation. The selection decision is communicated to all applicants.

Health examination

Instructions concerning the occupational health examination are sent by mail to the person selected for the job.

Public service offices and positions

The city of Espoo has both public service offices and positions. Public service offices are positions involving the use of public authority and tasks of the authorities, while other positions are “normal” positions of employment. In practice, there is not much difference between offices and positions.
