The exhibition highlights why biodiversity is important, how it is at risk and what you can do to safeguard it. Welcome to be enchanted by urban nature and get practical tips on what to do!

The loss of biodiversity is currently one of the greatest environmental problems. Humans are part of nature and fully dependant on the services it provides. For example, the reduction in the number of pollinators threatens food production, since more than 75% of the world's most important food crops depend, at least partly, on animal pollination.

Our choices have an impact on biodiversity. You can influence both locally and globally in many different ways. The exhibition offers biodiversity-enhancing solutions for your own garden, for camping and for the dining table.

Biodiversity is also being taken into account in the City of Espoo's activities. The main green connections are taken into account, decayed wood is saved in forest management and the spread of invasive species is curbed. The exhibition also tells you about what you can do for our shared nature areas.

The exhibition has been prepared at Nature House Villa Elfvik as part of the Espoo Environment Department’s Enchanted by Urban Nature 2020 theme year. Its content and visual presentation have been created by project worker Anna Hakala. The exhibition can be borrowed elsewhere in future.

Nature House Villa Elfvik is open Mon–Fri 9am–4pm and Sat–Sun 10am–4pm. Café Elfvik is open at weekends during the Nature House’s opening hours. Admission to the Nature House is free.
