Housing and services
The Greater Matinkylä area is the home of 41,000 people, and the number of inhabitants is expected to grow as urban infill picks up pace.
The Iso Omena Service Centre is a new public service concept that makes it easier for Espoo residents to take care of their everyday matters. The Service Centre includes a library, youth services, a maternity and child health clinic, a health centre, mental health and substance abuse services, Kela, a Service Point offering a variety of services and guidance, and laboratory and medical imaging services by Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS).
The services at Iso Omena attract visitors from all over Espoo. Completed in 2001 and extended in 2018, Iso Omena is the second-largest shopping centre in Espoo and includes more than a hundred specialty stores.
In addition to basic services, there are private day-care centres that employ various languages and a Steiner school and upper secondary school. The Matinkylä sports park has two artificial turfs, three tennis courts, a skate park and a parkour area and many other opportunities for sports and exercise.
The construction of a new ice sports centre is scheduled to begin in the Matinkylä sports park in 2019, as is the construction of a swimming pool in Tynnyripuisto.
