Kauklahti is one of Espoo’s local centres. Its housing stock mostly consists of detached houses. Built as the 2006 Finnish Housing Fair site right next to the old village milieu, Kauklahti is an example of dense, low-rise and village-like urban structure. The construction projects planned for the station area will improve feeder connections and replace a large share of the old industrial site with apartment buildings.

The northernmost parts of Kauklahti will remain agricultural and forestry areas, with the modern-age layers relying on the old village settlement. The scale and structures of old villages are also used as the starting point when new construction projects are planned.
