The planning area also includes the Iivisniemi shopping centre. The future metro station will be located near a small lake, Lake Hannusjärvi. Most of the new apartments will be built in the blocks surrounding the metro centre, and homes for some 200 people will be built at the location of the current shopping centre.
Easy to arrive by bike, car park provided for motorists
The planning of the Kaitaa metro centre aims to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, offering them an enjoyable urban space with comfortable routes. The residential block will include wide, high-quality pedestrian and cycling routes lined with shops and versatile services.
The main pedestrian and cycling paths will run on the southern side of Kaitaantie and on Iivisniemenkatu. Parking space will be provided in efficient car parks – leaving room for trees and vegetation outside.
The construction of the Kaitaa metro centre can start after the town plan has entered into force. The area will take about five years to complete. The construction schedule will match that of the metro. Metro traffic to Kivenlahti, the future end station, is expected to begin in early 2023. The section between Matinkylä and Kivenlahti will be seven kilometres long and include five new stations: Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti.
