Component Master Plan of Central Park I

The Component Master Plan of Central Park I covers approximately 480 ha and is located between Espoon keskus and Olari, extending all the way to Turunväylä Highway. It is mainly used as a recreation area. The Component Master Plan became legally effective in 1999.

The Component Master Plans of Central Park I and II comprise Central Park, which is the most important large and unbroken green area in the densely populated southern Espoo. It has great recreational value.

The Central Park became a general concept in master planning and regional planning in the 1970s.

Planning of the Central Park in Espoo began in 1982 when the area was divided into two parts. The Council approved of the Component Master Plan of Central Park I in 1996, and the Ministry of the Environment confirmed most of it in 1997. An area of about 5.6 hectares for buildings for cultural purposes, pleasure and entertainment (YYV/k) was left unconfirmed. The Ministry noted that the transport and parking arrangements of the YYV/k area as well as the impact of noise and other disturbances on the sensitive environment has not been sufficiently examined. The decision made by the Ministry of the Environment became legally effective in 1999.

The City Council approved of the Master Plan for the Southern Parts of Espoo on 7 April, 2008. This plan also covers the majority of the Component Master Plan of Central Park I. The Component Master Plan of Suurpelto–Ring II has been drawn up for the eastern side of the area covered by Central Park I and partly also for this area, but it has not been approved by the Council. The Master Plan for the Southern Parts of Espoo replaces those areas of the Component Master Plan of Central Park I that are covered by the Component Master Plan of Suurpelto–Ring II. The Master Plan for the Southern Parts of Espoo is legally effective in the area in question.

The Master Plan for the Southern Parts of Espoo leaves the majority of the Component Master Plan of Central Park I as effective, because the Master Plan for the Southern Parts of Espoo is legally ineffective in the area covered by Central Park I, with the exception of parts belonging to the Suurpelto area as mentioned earlier. The Component Master Plan of Central Park I governs land use in the area with more detailed regulations and restrictions than the Master Plan for the Southern Parts of Espoo.
