Annual grants

The application time for annual grants for 2022 will open from 1 April 2021.

Application deadline for professional art and cultural institutions is at 15 May 2021 at 3.45 pm. The grant application for registered cultural associations and local heritage associations must be delivered by 30 September 2021 at 3.45 pm.

Annual grants for cultural activities

Annual grants are intended to enable the operations of established art and cultural institutions as well as various art and cultural associations. Operating grants are also awarded to support local heritage work. An annual grant is general assistance for its recipient.

There are three application categories for annual grants:

Annual grants for professional art and cultural institutions

For whom: The grants are intended for registered art and cultural institutions and art festivals operating in Espoo.
For what purpose: To enable the operations of professional and established art and cultural institutions.

Annual grants for art and cultural associations

For whom: The grants are intended for registered art and cultural associations in Espoo.
For what purpose: To enable the operations of various art and cultural associations.

Annual grants for local heritage associations

For whom: The grants are intended for registered local heritage associations in Espoo.
For what purpose: To support city district activities.

Applying for an Annual grant

When: Annual grants for the next calendar year can be applied for once a year. The application time for annual grants for 2022 will open from 1 April 2021.

The application period for professional art and cultural institutions and festivals ends annually at 15 May at 3.45 pm. If the last day of the application period falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the application period will end on the weekday following the weekend at 3:45 pm.

The application period for art and cultural associations local heritage associations ends at the end of September, on the last day of the month at 3.45 pm. If the last day of the application period falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the application period will end on the weekday following the weekend at 3:45 pm.

Professional communities apply by submitting an application form to the city registry. Application form can be downloaded here.

The grant applications are to be submitted by the deadline mentioned to the City of Espoo Registry Office at PO Box 1, FI-02070 City of Espoo. The application form and appendices may also be submitted to the Registry Office electronically at kirjaamo[at]espoo.fi. Applications submitted through the online service will not be submitted to the Registry Office.

Receiving a grant requires that the application and the required appendices have been submitted by the deadline to the location mentioned in the announcement and that the application has been duly completed. Delayed or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Appendices required for annual grant applications

  • Annual report, financial statements and auditor’s report for the previous year as well as an extract from the Register of Associations
  • Operating plan for the application year and current year
  • Budget for the application year and current year
  • Rules of the association (new applicants)
     

Other annual grant terms

  • An annual grant is general assistance for its recipient, and should be used for activities in accordance with the purpose and operating plan presented by the recipient of the grant.
  • Assistance cannot be granted if the financial situation of the association is so poor that no general conditions exist for activities.
  • Professional art and cultural institutions receiving an operating grant should take into account in their operational assessment and budget that, in collaboration, the City of Espoo may require the organisation to participate or perform in an event of the city without additional compensation.

Report on the use of the annual grant

The use of the annual grant must be reported on when applying for the next grant, at the latest. The reports of professional art and culture communities must be submitted by 15 May of the following year. The reports of cultural associations and local heritage associations must be submitted by 30 September of the following year. If no report is submitted, the applicant will not receive a new grant.

A report on the use of the annual grant must be submitted even if a new grant is not being applied for. The report should include an annual report on the year for which the grant was received, signed financial statements and an audit report. 
 

The association receiving assistance undertakes to keep its accounts and administration open for accounting audits. If the assistance recipient violates the terms of the grant, the grant will be recovered.
