Culture Call will bring art and culture directly into day-care centres. The new service will be launched in September.
In the Culture Call project, professional cultural actors will visit day-care centres to perform and organise workshops. The contents of Culture Call will be realised by 24 art and culture actors. The contents are divided into eight themes according to topic area. Furthermore, Culture Call for educators involves cultural actors who will instruct early childhood education personnel on how to apply techniques of culture and art to work with children.
In its first year, Culture Call will cover all 175 municipal day-care centres in Espoo. All day-care centres will be visited by at least one cultural actor during the school year. Furthermore, at least one Culture Call for educators will be organised in each day-care centre.
The aim of Culture Call is to promote systematic and harmonious collaboration between early childhood educators and cultural actors as well as to enhance mutual learning. High-quality artistic and pedagogical activity realises the objectives of the early childhood education plan. Culture Call promotes the involvement of children and their equal right to experience and create art and culture.
The service is being planned together with the Espoo Cultural Unit, Finnish Early Childhood Education and Swedish Education Services as well as experts in the field of art and culture in Espoo. The service was piloted in 27 day-care centres last autumn. In future, the goal is to expand the service to cover private and open early childhood education as well as family day care.
