The City of Espoo has been asked whether it will compensate parents for the costs of packed lunches and snacks that they bought for their children on 22–23 October 2018. Some schools/day care centres did not have catering on these days due to a strike staged by the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL).

The City of Espoo made efforts to organise catering or packed food to some schools and day care centres, to the extent that this was possible. The scope of the strike and the surprising nature of the situation made it impossible to provide catering to all schools and day care centres.

Because the circumstances were similar to a force majeure situation, the city will not reimburse or compensate guardians for the costs of packed lunches and snacks.
