Espoo will open a new site for vaccinating large numbers of people at Metro Areena. The plan is to open the vaccination site in week 9. Please remember that you will need to book an appointment before visiting the Metro Areena vaccination site or any other vaccination site.
Red Cross volunteers available for discussions at the vaccination site
When getting vaccinated, Espoo residents will have a chance to share their thoughts and discuss with the volunteers of the Finnish Red Cross if they wish to do so. “The coronavirus epidemic has been tough and stressful for many people. We are here to support and listen to people who are getting vaccinated,” says Niina Hirvonen, coordinator of first aid activities in the Helsinki and Uusimaa district of the Finnish Red Cross.
Safe distances and customer safety ensured at the vaccination site
When you come to the vaccination site, enter Metro Areena through the main doors and, after registration, wait for your turn in the vaccination area. After getting vaccinated, you should stay in the lobby for 15 minutes for monitoring. You can then exit the building through the doors in the monitoring lobby. “We have designed the site so that people flow through the premises. This allows us to minimise encounters with other people,” says Metro Areena’s CEO Katariina Järveläinen.
Professionals from Espoo’s Event and Cultural Services have also been actively involved in planning and setting up Espoo’s vaccination sites.
At the moment, the vaccine is available to people born in or before 1941 and people born between 1952 and 1961 with a medical condition that significantly increases their risk of severe coronavirus disease. The progress of vaccinations depends on the number of vaccines available in Finland and Espoo.
