The purpose of the Environment Committee is to:
- act as the municipality’s environmental protection authority
- ensure environmental protection within the city, prepare a proposal for the city’s environmental protection plan and monitor its implementation
- handle the duties prescribed to municipalities in the Environmental Protection Act, and issue the statements specified in sections 24 and 27 of the Environmental Protection Act with regard to any applications.
In addition to matters otherwise assigned to the committee for decision, the Environmental Committee decides upon the protection of natural monuments in accordance with section 26 of the Environmental Protection Act and the cessation of the protection of such monuments in accordance with section 28 of the Act. The Environment Committee also makes decisions regarding the construction of trenches, as specified in section 161 a of the Land Use and Building Act, or the placement of protective embankments or pump stations required for the trenches in the area of others within the town plan area.
