Assessment of learning
Assessment guides and encourages learning. According to the national core curriculum, it covers learning, working and behaviour. Assessment develops the pupil's self-assessment skills. The majority of assessment takes place in daily school-going in teacher-pupil interaction. In Espoo, assessment is guided by the positive education viewpoint.
It is important that the assessment of learning is encouraging, realistic and follows goal-setting. Diverse and flexible, situationally applicable means are used. Pupil's needs and circumstances are accounted for. Both the pupil and the guardian must receive enough information about assessment.
