Afternoon activities in basic education are group activities in which one adult instructs a group of 15 children. Afternoon activities are arranged by private service providers or schools as the city’s own service. In addition to afternoon activities of basic education, many schools have their own, free-of-charge clubs and free-time activities arranged by other collaboration parties. There are also resident parks in the city’s regions.

Morning and afternoon care for special needs education groups is meant for children who have a valid decision on arranging holiday and/or afternoon care. Guardians may apply for the decision from the City of Espoo’s Disability Services. The decision functions as a subscription to the Finnish Education Unit for arranging the care.

Separate enrolment in morning and afternoon cares to the Finnish Education Unit is required, either in the electronic Wilma-system or by filling in a paper form.
