Bilingual education (Finnish-English) is meant for Finnish-speaking pupils living in Espoo. It is possible to apply to the education from all Espoo areas.
Bilingual education in grades 1–6 is arranged in Jalavapuisto and Niittykumpu primary schools. Meritori school is a new addition to bilingual schools in school year 2020-2021 and will arrange bilingual education in grade 1. Bilingual education in grades 7-9 is arranged in Haukilahti and Nöykkiö middle schools and in grades 1-9 in Kilonpuisto and Kuitinmäki joint comprehensive schools. The prerequisite for establishing new education groups is that there are at least 18 applicants who meet the selection criteria (admission criteria).
Enrolling in the 1st grade and applying for bilingual education
Enrolling in the 1st grade of comprehensive school and applying for bilingual education takes place between 8 and 20 January 2020 through the electronic Wilma service by filling in the form 'Application for 1st grade of Comprehensive School'. If You are unable to use the Wilma service, You can fill in the paper form. The paper form must arrive no later than by 20 January 2020 to the following address: the Finnish Education Unit, Secretary of student affairs Sara Raitala, P.O. Box 31, FIN-02070 City of Espoo. Please note that applications submitted after the application period are rejected and the applicants will not be given a right to participate in the entrance examination.
Your child must take part in entrance examination on Wed 5 February 2020. All applicants will receive a personal invitation to the examination.

Enrolling in the 7th grade and applying for bilingual education
Enrolling in the 7th grade and applying for bilingual education takes place between January 8th and 16th 2020 through the electronic Wilma service by filling in the form 'Application for 7th Grade of Comprehensive school'. If You are unable to use the Wilma service, You can fill in the paper form. The paper form must be submitted to Your child's current school in Espoo by 16 January 2020.
Your child must take part in entrance examination on Wed 29 January 2020 at 9:00 am at Espoo International School(address: Lillhemtintie 1, 02250 Espoo). Applicants will not receive personal invitations to the examination. The applicants must arrive at the school by 8:45 am.
Pupils who have attended bilingual education in the 6th grade
If Your child is attending bilingual education in joint comprehensive school (Kilonpuisto school, Kuitinmäki school) in the 6th grade, he/she will transfer to the 7th grade and continue in bilingual education without applying separately or participating in the entrance examination. If Your child is attending bilingual education in Jalavapuisto school or Niittykumpu school, You must fill in the form 'Application for 7th Grade of Comprehensive school'. In order to continue in bilingual education in the 7th grade, You must select all schools providing bilingual education in order of preference. You child does not have to participate in the entrance examination.

Applying to other grades of bilingual education
If study places become available during the school year and they aren't filled by applicants moving to Espoo in the middle of the school year, new pupils can be admitted to the free study places based on the entrance examination.
Please fill in the application form Kaksikieliseen opetukseen (suomi-englanti) vuosiluokille 2-9 hakeminen and submit it to the school offering bilingual education to which Your child primarily applies. You child must take part in the entrance examination held by the bilingual school. Please contact the school for additional information.
The Entrance examination in August
The entrance eximation is held in August 2010. Additional information will be available in Jan 2020.
