Applying to bilingual education (Finnish-English)

Bilingual education (Finnish-English) is meant for Finnish-speaking pupils living in Espoo. It is possible to apply to the education from all Espoo. In school year 2019–2020, bilingual education in grades 1–6 is arranged in Jalavapuisto and Niittykumpu primary schools, in grades 7–9 in Haukilahti and Nöykkiö middle schools and in grades 1–9 in Kilonpuisto and Kuitinmäki joint comprehensive schools. The prerequisite for establishing new instruction groups is that there are at least 18 applicants who meet the selection criteria.

Applying to the first grade of bilingual education (school year 2019-2020) THE APPLICATION PERIOD HAS ENDED!

Applying to the first grade of comprehensive school takes place through the electronic Wilma-service between January 8th–21st 2019. If the guardian cannot enroll their child through Wilma, they can fill in the print application form and submit it by January 21st at the latest to the following address: Finnish Education Unit, secretary of student affairs Sara Raitala, P.O. Box 31, FIN-02070 CITY OF ESPOO.

The applicants will receive an invitation to participate in the entrance examination held on January 29th 2019.

Applying to the seventh grade of bilingual education (school year 2019-2020) THE APPLICATION PERIOD HAS ENDED!

Applying to the seventh grade of comprehensive school and bilingual education (Finnish-English) takes place through the electronic Wilma-service between January 8th–16th 2019. If the guardian cannot enroll their child through Wilma, they can fill in the print application form and submit it to their childs current school in Espoo by January 16th 2019 at the latest.

The applicants shall participate in the entrance examination held on January 24th 2019 at Espoo International School.The applicant will not receive a separate invitation to the entrance examination. The entrance examination begins at 9 a.m. Applicants must arrive by 8:45 a.m. at the latest.

Applying to other grades of bilingual education

If study places become available during the school year and they aren't filled by applicants moving to Espoo in the middle of the school year, new pupils can be admitted to the free study places based on the entrance examination. The guardians shall fill in the application form Kaksikieliseen opetukseen (suomi-englanti) vuosiluokille 2-9 hakeminen and submit it to the school offering bilingual education to which the pupil primarily applies. The applicant shall participate in the entrance examination held by the bilingual school. The guardians are advised to contact the school for additional information.
