Linguistic and cultural awareness

Linguistic and cultural awareness are an important part of developing the schools' operating culture. In year 2014, Espoo Finnish education started the Agora-project to develop the skills of the teaching staff to promote the linguistic awareness, multilingual teaching and dialogue between different religions/ethic worldviews. In addition, learning material on linguistic awareness and ways of working was produced for and gathered from the schools. 

The Agora-project had three fields:

  • Linguistic awareness in teaching and multiliteracy in subject teaching (for middle schools)
  • Linguistic awareness and simultaneous teaching (in primary schools)
  • Steps of dialogue between religions and ethic worldviews 

The materials are grounded in the materials produced in the Agora project. They are found from under the Finnish-language site (in Finnish).

The Agora-project was funded by the European Fund for the Integration of Third-country Nationals (75 %) and the City of Espoo (25 %).
