Finnish Education Unit

The Finnish Education Unit belongs to Espoo Education and Cultural Services. The unit is led by the Director of Education. It is divided in the following units and services:

  • Basic Education Unit, run by the Executive Superintendent of Basic Education
  • General Upper Secondary Unit, run by the Executive Superintendent of General Upper Secondary Education
  • Planning and Administration Unit Services, run by the Executive Development Manager

The Finnish Education Unit answers for:

  • arranging and assessing the activities of Finnish-speaking basic education, voluntary additional education, general upper secondary education and basic art education
  • arranging and assessing the activities of Finnish-speaking preparatory education for both basic education and general upper secondary education and of the immigrants’ own mother tongue education
  • on its behalf for arranging assessing the activities of Finnish-speaking pre-primary education
  • tasks statutory to the education provider as is issued in the Student Welfare Act
  • arranging afternoon activities as is issued in the Basic Education Act
  • tasks issued as the responsibility of the municipality or the Finnish-speaking basic art education provider and
  • coordinating and implementing morning, afternoon and holiday care for pupils who have a decision based on the Disability Act or the Disability Service Act to participate in such care
