Descriptions of personal data file
The purpose of the Personal Data Act (523/1999) is to enforce the civil rights safeguarding privacy protection in the processing of personal data and to promote the development of and adherence to good practice in data processing. The law requires the controller (City of Espoo) to draw up a description of file in accordance with Section 10 of the Personal Data Act for every register file containing personal data.
Personal data includes name and address, for instance. Personal data may be collected and recorded, for example, when there is a pertinent connection, such as a customer relationship, employment relationship or student relationship, between the controller and the person who is the subject of the personal data.
According to the Personal Data Act, a person must, upon request, be provided with information about the personal data that has been recorded in the personal data file regarding him/her and the purpose of processing the personal data. The person may also exercise his/her right to review the data in order to demand the correction of incorrect information.
Most of the descriptions of personal data file of the City of Espoo have only been published in Finnish.
