Outdoor Recreation Areas

Roaming, camping, picking berries, listening to the sounds of nature, enjoying yourself… In addition to versatile terrains, the outdoor recreation areas also contain cooking shelters and places to build a campfire. 

Kattilajärvi Recreation Area
Kattilajärventie, 02820 Espoo
The Kattilajärvi Recreation Area is located on the shores of the large Kattilajärvi Lake with its clear waters. The terrain is rocky and diverse. The Scouts’ summer camp is located nearby. A cooking shelter, a well and an excellent beach with a jetty make the area an excellent place for camping.

Nuuksio National Park
Managed by Metsähallitus, Nuuksio National Park spreads across Espoo, Vihti and Kirkkonummi. The National Park forms the westernmost part of the so-called Nuuksio lake highlands, the largest and most important unbroken wilderness area in Uusimaa in terms of its natural value. It covers an area of 37 square kilometres.

Nuuksio has 38 small lakes and ponds as well as shorelines from twelve other lakes. There are both brown water lakes surrounded by bogs as well as clear lakes with rocky shores. The rugged and challenging terrain offers a chance to discover the local nature on foot. There is a nature cabin, marked paths and places to build a campfire in the area. How do I get to Nuuksio?

A hiking map of Nuuksio–Luukkaa on a scale of 1:20 000 is on sale in e.g. bookstores and the Map Centre.

Oittaa Recreation Area
Oittaa Recreation Centre, Kunnarlantie 33–39, 02740 Espoo.
Located at the southern end of Lake Bodom, the Oittaa Recreation Area offers multiple opportunities for outdoor exercise. The area contains a campsite and one of the most popular beaches in Espoo with an Angry Birds park. Visitors may exercise or ski on a lit trail that is 4.4 km long. A nature trail c. 2 km long starts out from near the Oittaa Recreation Centre. There are also fixed orienteering points in the wilderness of Oittaa.

Väransby Recreation Area
Ankarlaxintie 200, 02420 Jorvas.
A camping and caravan area for Espoo residents in Hirsala, Kirkkonummi. This secluded area with beautiful places to swim stretches out for three kilometres along the seashore. There are cooking shelters and wells in the area. Own area for caravans.
