Early childhood education

The City of Espoo provides multiform early childhood education for children under school age, and pre-primary education for those of the pre-primary education age. The goal of early childhood education is to promote the age- and development-appropriate overall growth, development, health and well-being of each child as well as to support the preconditions of the child’s learning. Early childhood education is implemented in an entity formed by care, upbringing and teaching.

The parents can apply for an early childhood education place for the child or use the open early childhood education services. The city arranges early childhood education at Day Care Centres, group family day-care centres and in family day care as well as open early childhood education at residents' parks, open day-care centres and clubs.

There are many private early childhood education places in Espoo. Parents who choose the private early childhood education, may receive a private day-care allowance and the relate municipal supplement.

Parents can care for their children at home and may receive a child home care allowance if there is a child under the age of 3 in the family.
