Studying in comprehensive school

All children and young people in Espoo in the age of compulsory education have the right to participate in basic education provided by the municipality. Instruction is provided in grades 1–9. In comprehensive school, the pupil completes one's compulsory education and receives a basic education certificate as well as eligibility for further studies.

Comprehensive school is free of charge. The pupil receives free textbooks and other learning material chosen by the schools. Textbooks are often circulated. Sports clothes and equipment are purchased by the guardians.
